Tips for Minimalist Living

Tips for Minimalist Living

Minimalism is quickly becoming a preferred fashion style and way of life. We explained in a previous blogwhat minimalism is and what minimalist living looks like, and in today’s post, we’ll give you a few tips that will help you live minimally. Strapo Design created the revolutionary Strapo Kickstarter wallet, and we’re constantly sending new designs into the world. Browse our catalog today!

Evaluate Your Space

Regardless of whether you’ve just moved into a new place or you’ve been in your current location for a while, it’s always good to evaluate the space you’re in. Does your furniture comfortably fit into your living space? Do you own large pieces of furniture that you don’t really use? Is it difficult for you to find storage space for new items, and do you have a lot of clothing you don’t wear that is taking up a lot of space in your closet? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, it may be time to move to our second tip: declutter and purge.

Declutter and Purge Unneeded Items

Living minimally and living with less are closely intertwined, and you’ll be surprised at how much of a difference it makes to let go of your unnecessary clothing and possessions. Look through your collection of clothing and determine which items you actually wear, and how much of your clothing is comprised of items you’ve only worn once or twice. While it’s always good to have clothing for special occasions, try to determine what you’ll wear at some point in the future and what you’ll likely never wear again. If you’ve found any items that you’re confident you’ll never wear or use again, try donating them to a local organization that accepts gently used goods. You’ll not only feel better by decluttering your home, but you’ll also feel good knowing that you’ve helped others.

Think Twice Before Buying

Upon reflection, most of us will admit that the majority of the purchases we make aren’t necessary. We’re often tempted by discounts, sales, and spur-of-the-moment decisions that lead to overflowing closets and cluttered desks. The next time you think about making an online purchase or buying an item in a department store, think about your reasons for buying the item. Ask yourself if you can live without it, and if it’s reasonably convenient, try to wait until the next day to make your decision to buy it. The impulse may have worn off by then, and you’ll probably find yourself feeling thankful that you saved money. When you do buy a new garment or accessory, try to find one that will last for years and will perform a variety of tasks. Our Strapo wallet, for instance, is a great way to declutter your wallet while boosting your storage space.

We hope that you’ve enjoyed these tips, and we will revisit this topic in future posts and explain even more ways that you can live minimally.
